The Department of English has been an integral part of the college since its inception in 1995. It initially functioned as a General English Department offering common courses in English to all first- and second-year students from various disciplines. The BA English Literature programme with British History and Journalism as Complementary Elective Courses, was introduced in 2013. The sanctioned strength of the programme is 42 seats. The Department also offers a PG programme in English under the self -financing scheme with total intake of 20 students.

The undergraduate programme in English lays emphasis on both literary analysis and creative work. The learning environment is student-centric, innovative and progressive. Peer learning, remedial classes , and mentoring ensure the holistic development of each individual student. Students are provided the opportunity to participate in seminars and present papers at seminars and colloquiums organised by the college and other institutions. Literary luminaries and faculty from other institutions are often invited to provide the students and teachers the opportunity to discuss and study the latest offerings in the field of Literature.

The English club ENGLORA is a vital force on the campus. The club regularly conducts literary and social and cultural awareness programmes. The creative and artistic skills of the students are encased in the Department publication’ Zeitgeist’.
