World Environmental Day Celebration

      The NAM College kallikkandy ' Elavu ' program was organized as part of World Environment day. The function was inaugurated by Koothuparamba MLA Sri.KP Mohanan. College Committee General Secrtery Sri PPA Hameed delivered the presidential address.As a part of this event 56 plant saplings were planted in the college ground. All the students of college were took part in this event. Few seminars related to environment were decided to conduct. Panchayat members were the chief guests of the ceremony. Welcome speech was given by principal Dr. T majeed and sri Sameer Parambath, College committe secretary, delivered the vote of Thanks.

      The College ground was built on laterite stone filled north part of the campus. After the one week assiduous effort of both students and teacher made this part to plant trees. Event was organised by NSS ,NCC and Nature club.

NAM GREEN AURA PROJECT

A Green Campus is a place where environmental friendly practices and education combine to promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the campus. The green campus concept offers an institution the opportunity to take the lead in redefining its environmental culture and developing new paradigms by creating sustainable solutions to environmental, social and economic needs of the mankind. NAM Green Campus Project was a dream project of the college management and teachers to make the campus green and flowery within 10 years . the project was fully funded by the management of the college and the team was assisted by the teachers, NSS, NCC and nature club of the college . The 10 years long project was planned by the authority to implement in different phases

OBJETIVES

i. To create awareness regarding environmental policy amongst the students, teachers and the management.

ii. To beautify the campus with greenery and shade.

iii. To promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the campus.

iv. To develop alternative measures to solve environmental challenges.

v. To incorporate green protocol among students and faculties.

vi. To motivate staff, students and teachers through environmental literacy.

vii. To protect and conserve ecological systems and resources within the campus.

viii. To ensure judicious use of environmental resources to meet the needs and aspirations of the present and future generations.

ix. To integrate environmental concerns into policies, plans and programmes for social development and outreach activity.

x. To work with all stakeholders and the local community to raise awareness and seek the adoption of environmental good practice and the reduction of any adverse effects on the environment.

xi. To continuously improve our contribution to climate protection and adaptation to climate change and to the conservation of global resources.

Phase I

Green Aura - 2021

As part of the green campus policy . NAM College management and IQAC has started a green initiative project to make the campus and its surrounding green and shady. It was a series of programme the authority planned and the first phase was inaugurated in 31st March 2021 under the title ‘Green Aura-2021’. The main objective of the phase one is to transform the college and it premises especially the two sides of the campus road into green and eco-friendly. For that purpose, Variety of Fruits tree and shade trees like Mango Tree, Fig, Rose apple and Pongame Tree have been planted in the two sides of the campus road and front yard of the main block . The project was inaugurated by Sri. Sameer Parambath (Joint Secretary, MEF . Mr. Muhammed Ismayil K M (IQAC Coordinator), Dr Hussain (Asst. Professor, Dept. of Malayalam), Kum. Dhanya and Kum. Mubeena, involved in the programme. The Green Aura is being implemented by IQAC in collaboration with the College Management Committee and Agriculture Office of Thriprangottur Grama Panjayath. The first Phase of the 'Green Aura 2021' was completed on April 5th 2021.

Phase II

Elavu

Phase III

Green Park Cum Open Air Class Room

The third phase of the Green Aura Project is the construction of Green Park and open Air Class Room. It consist of The main intension of this project is to build an open airclass room surrounded with beautiful garden, gallery, water fountain, pool and parking benches. The open class and the garden situate in the south east part, very close to the central library and college canteen. After completion of the work the space can be used for conducting various outdoor programmes and function and also can be used by the students to utilize their free time creatively conducting any value added discussions, symposiums and seminars.

The third phase is also planned to make a Rose Garden near the centre yard of the campus. Number of different coloured rose plants were planted the place and of course the after six months of the plantation the garden will be the centre of attraction of the campus.

The rainwater harvesting strengthens the water supply to the campus as well as enhance water level of wells in the campus through ground water recharging process. Rain pits were constructed during rainy season to collect and protect the rain water under the soil.

WASTE MANAGEMENT

SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

To maintain a clean and beautiful campus the institution maintained proper waste management system for solid, liquid and e-wastes. Solid wastes are sold to the scrap dealers. A bottle booth, to collect plastic water bottles and other plastic waste, is also established in the college with the support of Thriprangottoor Grama Panchayath. E-wastes are dumped in a separate room meant for this purpose. For disposal of waste water, proper drainage has been constructed. Liquid wastes are discharged to sewage pits and chemical wastes are properly drained of without causing any damage or harm to the environment. Administrative office functions are in paperless mode.

  • Open Well water

The Main source of water is Ground water is extracted to full the requirement. At present there are 3 wells out of which with 2 has open well structure and the other is a borewell. The college stores the water in overhead tank. The source of wastewater is Domestic Waste Water i.e., Sewage water. The Sewage water mainly comes from Toilets of college, hostel, kitchen and canteen.

BEYOND THE CAMPUS ACTIVITIES

Re-4 “Project”.

Re-4 project with the aim of replacing and recycling the plastic wastes from the campus and near-by area of the Thrippangottur panchayath. It was a great project initiated by the NSS unit of the college. The volunteers and teachers visited the plastic recycling centre , they provided plastic collecting bins to the near-by schools and finally handed it over the recycling centre. To promote the use of cotton bags and paper bags the students supply the same to the panchayath.

Energy Conservation Awareness Workshop

1. Awareness workshop at Chokli

The programme was conducted on 21-01-2017 at MathiyambathL.P.school.Theprogramme was inaugurated by the college principal Dr.K.K.Musthafa. Around 80 members including Kudumbasree and other public participated in the function. We distributed LED bulb to the participant at a rate of 50. And also collected the electricity bill for the last month. The resource person directed them to reduce the bill by efficient managing of electrical devices. We provided refreshment for the participant.

2. Awareness workshop at Kallikkandy

The programme was conducted on 24-01-2017 at KallikkandyPanchayath hall. Around 111 members including kudumbasree and other public participated in the function. We distributed LED bulb to 100 participant in a rate of 50Rs. And also collected the electricity bill for the last month. The resource person directed them to reduce the bill by efficient managing of electrical devices. We provided refreshment for the participant.

The two activities conducted by the NSS unit of our college with the financial support of Urjakiran and EMC gave an effective outreach programme to our institution. As the part of follow up activity we directed our volunteers to make awareness campaign in home by giving notices and instruct them to monitor next six months electricity bill. And also offered free LED if there is gradual decrease in the electricity bill by the efficient use of electrical devices. We were also very grateful by conducting such an extension activity with a relevant topic such as energy conservation.
