The Department of English has been an integral part of the college since its inception in 1995. It initially functioned as a General English Department offering common courses in English to all first- and second-year students from various disciplines. The BA English Literature programme with British History and Journalism as Complementary Elective Courses, was introduced in 2013. The sanctioned strength of the programme is 62 seats. The Department also offers a PG programme in English under the self -financing scheme with total intake of 20 students.

The undergraduate programme in English lays emphasis on both literary analysis and creative work. The learning environment is student-centric, innovative and progressive. Peer learning, remedial classes, and mentoring ensure the holistic development of each individual student. Students are provided the opportunity to participate in seminars and present papers at seminars and colloquiums organised by the college and other institutions. Literary luminaries and faculty from other institutions are often invited to provide the students and teachers the opportunity to discuss and study the latest offerings in the field of Literature and issues of current relevance.

The English club ENGLORA is a vital force on the campus. The club regularly conducts literary and social and cultural awareness programmes. Poetry reading sessions, enactment of plays, debates extempories and other speaking and writing creative exercises all come under the purview of Englora.The creative and artistic skills of the students are encased in the Department publication' Zeitgeist". The Department also conducts language skill development programs with the help of skilled trainers to overcome the handicap of communication skills which are faced by many of the students as a result of the rural environment of the college. The English language laboratory has been set up with the express purpose of improving the communication skills of the students who are mainly from the surrounding area of Kalki kkandy. Equipped with 24 computers the lab is open to all students of different programs in the college. Under the guidance of the faculty of journalism ,short films have also been made and screened on the campus as part of the Fourth semester Film Studies complementary course. The the English department also offers two open courses (English for Competitive Examinations and Gender Studies ) for the 6th semester students of the college. In the past few years ,the English department has secured top ranks in Kannur University for the BA English program and has emblazoned its name on the academic horizons of Kannur University.
